Question on new baby chick

We had a baby Cochin hatch out last night, it wasn't doing well on it's on so I helped it. (I know that a big no-no, but I just couldn't stand by and watch it.) The problem is it has some shell still stuck on it, and I have read that they can bleed to death if you pull it off. It is stuck on its wing and that wing isn't able to move. How can I get the shell off? Thank you in advance.

I would let it stay on him for a while. It will eventually come off. If your too worried, give him a little bath!

If you decide to soak him, make sure the bathwater is nice and warm (but not scalding hot!). Also, be prepared for some very offended peeping. They love to cuddle with you in a towel afterwards though.
