Hi Everyone ,
I have a couple of Question about building by Pheasant Run’s , I research most of the threads on here but was wondering to those of you that have build your side by side Pheasant could pens/ runs if you could would you change anything about them now that you have build them and now up and run and raising your pheasant to inprove or change them now .

1st. Question

Ok here my plans on building my pheasants breed/ keeping runs .
I was planning on make them 12’ long X 6-8’ width X 6’ high , w/a wooden enclosure (2’ X 2’ X 2’ Wooden Box ) place in side the run for sleeping and getting out of the weather for a trio of various type of breeds of pheasant in each run .
I was thinking on building 6 to 8 runs side by side to house various type of breeds .

Ok here my First no maybe 2nd question , would you place 2 ½ ft. to 3’ ft. high wooden or other type of drop boards or barriers in-between each run so that the males or females would not see each other while begin on the opposite side of each run and just running up and down trying to get the other pheasants (males or females) in the other runs, and then from there go with wire fence up to the 6’ ft. high mark with a cover of wire or netting for the top .
The back of each run would have a door so I could enter each run the rest of the back would be also wire or fence , the front of the runs would be all wire or fence . Or it don’t matter if I use wire or fence in-between each run , I just trying to not to get the pheasants more interesting in the others on the oppose side and do what they do best with what they have in there runs if ya get the picture or what I trying to say .

Ok I post these 2 question now but I may have a few more ,
I want to do it right the first time and not have to change things later on there runs or small coops .

Thanks Alan

Hi DaKid,
My pens are 6x12x6,the roof is pitched just like on a house.I use construction poly(10ml)on the roof and as a barrier between pens.In the winter the side are polyed all around to keep the drafts off from the birds.Pheasants very rarely use a box or house.I put xmas trees in to give them cover and sometimes they build their nests undr them.I also give them bushel baskets both hanging and on the floor of their pen and a piece of plywood leaning on the side of the pen. This gives them a few options as to where they are going to nest.Inclosed a pic of pens. There are 14 pens in all.The total space is 12x64.

if you can i'd suggest making it so that you can remove the panels seperating each individual pen, that way if you end up with and empty pen you can open it up for extra space, especialy if you get breeds with large space requirements. As for blocking view, it would probably be a good idea, especialy with more aggressive species. and my pheasants love their house i built them, they never come outside since they got it!

Thanks Eveyone for the information .

Tony ,

Because I have not started to build my Pheasant pens as of yet I've just been getting inform. on them, breeding -rasing and caring and what size pens to build , to make sure I have the proper set up before I go into this .I just build my Duck Aviary and I'm finishing up with that, I'm waiting on the wire and netting to come in so I be set up for for early spring.
I would love to get some now but I just be looking at a nightmare since I not setup as of yet, pheasant don't mix with chickens or turkeys in the sand run .

I like your set-up and I going to start build something like your but maybe not as long ( lol ) as of now- but I'm thinking on a roof with 1/2 wire and 1/2 poly for the roof , and wire for the front part , and wire for the back and sides but w/ also poly so I can roll up during the summer and roll down in the winter .
I'm thinking on about 4 different breeds of Pheasants as of now .

What other breeds of pheasants of pheasant do you breed.
What do you get for a pair of your Red /Goldens

Thanks Alan

Hi Alan,
There is a swap in Westford,Ma the 1st sun of every month. It's at the Westford sportsmens club,74 Westst.,Westford,ma.It starts at 8;00 am,but you can get there around 7:30 if you want to.There is also a swap/show in Springfield,Ma on the 16th&17th of Jan.I will be at there on the 17th to pick up a bird.
You need to be a memeber to sell but you do not have to be a member to buy.
I build my pens 12x12 and then build another 12x12 -5'10" away and connect them.I use 1/2x1/2 hardware cloth everywhere. The roof is also hardware cloth with 10mil constrution poly over that. The pitch of the roof is also incorperated into the pen space,so the highest point is about 8'.Feel free at any time to stop by and check out my birds and pens.I am out of work so anytime is good for me.
I have one pair of red goldens left and they are 50.00 pr.
