Hello, I live in North Central MO. Here you know mother nature is a women because the weather can change on a dime! (LOL Joking ladies) The weather can be 95-100 and super muggy like last week or in the 70's like this week in June, July and August. In the winter we do get some snow and temps can be in the 60's or -10? You never know what is coming next.
Does anyone have any experience with Sussex in MO or a comparable state? I am not too worried about winter but more the summer heat and high humidity. Thank you in advance.

I'm in SC and it's hot and humid the majority of the year. I absolutely loved my SS. They were some of my friendliest girls and good layers. They also happened to be some of my most heat tolerant birds and were some of the only ones who continued laying during the worst heat waves. Can't say anything about cold hardiness since it can barely get below 40 here, but they are definitely a breed I would recommend for the other reasons.

I live in the Southeast and raise SS.
No problems with high and low temps. Our summer highs hit mid 90s and with high humidity.
Low was 1F, December before last. We put extra hay in their coop and they all did just fine.

Sussex tend to be pretty hardy. I've raised mine in (dry heat) temperatures into the 110+ degrees, and haven't lost one yet to the heat. When it gets over 100, I put misters out, which probably wouldn't work in high humidity situations. But, I've also noticed that my Sussex are really good at using wading pools to cool off. So a you can put a large pan/small kiddie pool out with an ice chunk in it, if it gets super hot and you are worried.

Sussex are a fairly popular breed here in Aus, which is pretty warm :p
Mine only have to deal with dry heat though, I have more issues with my Barnevelders and Silkies in heat than I ever have with my Sussex.
