I have a few question and I'm new to having chickens.

How old are chickens when they start laying eggs?

How can u tell they are getting close to laying eggs.

I have Easter Egger,New Hampshire red,Cornish hen that about 5 to 6 months old no eggs yet.

Is there something wrong with them?

What. Are some problems that can keep hens from laying eggs.?

How often should they lay one They start?

What problems could happen

Chickens can start laying from 16-28 weeks of age, rarely any younger or older.

Chickens near laying time will get brighter combs and wattles, start squatting down, and search nest boxes out.

Your hens will likely start laying soon. Some begin laying earlier then others, I think it depends not only on genetics but also how much light they are getting and things like that.

Pullets start laying every few days, but in their laying prime they should lay 5-6 times a week.

Hens stop laying eggs if stressed, too hot, too cold, if they aren't getting enough light, if they are egg-bound, if they aren't getting enough calcium or other nutrients, and if they are sick. Also, they stop laying when molting and egg production slows after around a year and a half of age.

How can u tell they are getting close to laying eggs. The only real way to know is the presence of an egg.

If they are, you need to make sure that the diet they are being fed contains the necessary nutrients to support egg production. They should be on an 16% protein laying hen diet when they start laying eggs.

Is there something wrong with them? This is diffuclt to answer. I might suggest supplementing their diet with oyster shell in case they are not getting enough calcium in their diet to support egg production.

Im not sure they are all girls i have 7 road island reds im not sure of the sex. They never crowed around me or just lay matures.

But i do know i have at least 4 females.


My flock is a mix flock of different breeds.

We do have them on the purina laying pellets.


I would not consider any other brand. I use it for all my animals.

I do feed my flock

Scrambled or boiled eggs

Unsalted nuts

Vegetables

Fruit

Quick oats

Wheat bread

Meal worms

Live bait
