I have four parrots, and we buy Higgins bird mix for them. I was wondering if our chicken could eat some of it as well. It has sunflower seeds, corn etc. most of the things I hear people feeding their chickens. She will pick up the loose seeds that fall around the cages, but I wasn't sure if she could eat more than that at this point. She is about 2 months old now.

Well normaly you only have to use chick starter for around 6-8 weeks anyway, should be fine to my knowlage, I use crushed corn and seeds myself as a treat or scratch. Also you can buy "chicken blocks" that are pressed blocks of food they can peck at that have most if not all of the listed things in them.

I would use it as only a treat for now. At 2 months of age, their adult feathers are forming and coming in. They need additional protein that the starter has in it so they don't start feather picking to satisfy that need.

Thank you for the replies. I do feed her the chick starter, as well as some other bits of veggies etc. My understanding is that they really don't need anything but the chick starter for the first few months as it has all the vitamins etc they need at this stage.. I would only give it to her as a treat every now and then, and sparingly.
