Hello all, this is a bit of a doozy to me as this duck fell into my lap suddenly. I was out walking my dog when I came across her (I think its a female) she doesn't show any signs of distress. She has been very friendly, somewhat fearful of me but makes a fuss when i leave. She was cold, wet and hungry so I brought her back to my home until I can find who she belongs to. If I can't find an owner I intend to integrate her into my flock. As I gave her a bath I noticed this fleshy bit under her crest, I believe its an injury as its the only place where her feathers are uneven.
What can be done? She doesn't show any immediate problems, her breathing is somewhat raspy but has become much better once she got the chance to clean her nares. She bobs her head a lot but not in a way that is unnatural. I haven't got the chance to see her move around but intend to let her walk the backyard a bit tomorrow. Is this serious? Should I keep her out of water from now on? Will she ever be able to safely integrate into my flock? The other birds are all khaki cambell females but the sometimes pull each others heads when in the pool together. I appreciate any advice.
