Can anyone give me advice on how much light a hen needs in order to lay an egg? ie. sunrise - sunset. As the daylight decreases, I still want to have good laying hens but they have decreased egg production due to the decreased light. Thank You!!!

Usually 14 hours a day is suggested.

Some hens do not need extra light. Bred to lay during winter.

Agree, 14 hrs.

Hens do slow down during the shorter days, but I don't use artificial light. I think they are following nature's rhythyms and need the time to rest their bodies from the hard work of egg laying. I still get eggs in the winter, just not as many.
