I am still in the process of finishing my chicken coop and my next project will be the run. It's a HUGE chain link dog run. I don't have the exact measurements because it's dismantled at the moment, but I'm easily fitting my 8x12 coop inside of it. I could probably fit three or four (at least three..) of these size coops in it as far as I remember, if anyone can figure out the math on that in order to figure out the size of the run.
I live on a bald mountain pretty much. I'm surrounded by forest, but my yard is bare, bare, bare. I'm in the process of fixing that, but tree's don't grow overnight. Basically I need hawk protection but I'm not sure how to feasibly cover this run. Chicken wire is cheaper than hardware cloth, but as of now I've only been using hardware cloth because I really don't want dead chickens. However, would chicken wire on top prevent hawks? I realize it won't keep raccoons and stuff out though, so I'm imaging they'd tear it up pretty fast either way. I guess I answered my own question there
Well, how would I go about covering the run? Do I need to dig posts and run some across the top and staple the wire in sections? That was my only idea so far that seemed workable. It's just such a large run that I don't see any amount of wire on a roll reaching all the way across for me to secure to the chain link.
How has everyone else done it? Pictures would help me tremendously
