One of my broody hens decided she was done hatching eggs so she took the 6 chicks that have hatched so far and left the rest of the eggs on the nest. I moved them to a brooder and one is hatching. What I'm wondering is 1. How long should I give the chick to actually break through the egg? 2. Is it a bad idea to help the chick break through it's egg? And 3. Once the chick hatches and is walking around can I place it back with the hen or will she attack it?

Thanks!

it may take a while for it to get out of the shell. dont help it it may kill it. when it drys off all the way you can try to put it with the hen she should take it. i hope this helps

Sometimes it can take more than24 hours from pip to hatch. We have found that if they can't make it out of the shell on their own, they just arnt strong enough to survive.
