Please help guys this is my first time and i am twelve years old my Duck egg is on the eighth day and i think doing very well... I found it out in my yard and i know it is not dead... I have a home-made incubator because im not really the country gal but i do take my time turning the egg every 2 hours but not at school at night since im using a heat lamp i heat up rice in a sock and put the egg on top with two to three blankets on top. I came home one day with using the rice sock technique and it was cold not freezing cold but not at regular temperature (100) Is this OK?? I have so many questions and i am very worried please please comment with any suggestions and tips.

~Thanks... First timer!

How long was it cold? I'm sure it's fine. Please look into a incubator, though,

because the way your keeping it warm, just sounds like to much work. It

could also easily get cold. How are you dealing with humidity? They need

humidity to develop. You can buy a 40-50 dollar LG or hova bator.

Not the BEST incubators, but they're easier to deal with than what your doing.

I wish you the best of luck, dear.

Scissorchick said it all - humidity is a huge factor in hatching duck eggs - even more than chickens.
My brother did what you are doing, when he was your age and developed ducks right up to hatching by setting them on the furnace sitting on a cloth pad - but all quit at the end for lack of humidity. The egg autopsy we did at the end confirmed they were fully developed , just couldn't hatch. Get an incubator and you'll be fine.

x2 what the previous posters said. The eggs will develop but you will have real issues at the end if you can't provide the humidity that the eggs need. You might be able to get a used incubator on craigslist. Or you might also try some schools in your area. A lot of classes are hatching eggs around this time and you might be able to add yours to the mix or even borrow an incubator for your egg. Good luck
