I'be been given conflicting info about my Pekins. Will they fly as adults? And how are they with other breeds such as Ancomas? Any info would be great.

Thanks
Chris

pekins cannot fly as adults, or youngsters,or eggs,or at all, they get too big.

my pekin hen can get off the ground maybe 4 inches, but comes crashing back down, their wieght and smaller wings, mean they can't fly.

the only of my pekins I have a problem with is Big Lenny, my crested, he's an older drake, so veeery agressive with other drakes, and likes to chase my african goose hen, otherwise, Maude and Boris don't bother anyone and even get along with the calls and mallards.

I would say they generally do not fly, however one of my girls made it over a 3 foot fence the other day (!!) so short distances are possible when they are really motivated!

I think that they would be fine with other breeds if they were raised together. I think if there are problems it is more of an indvidual bird vs bird issue than breed vs breed. For example my Pekin drake hates my Blue Swedish drake, mostly because he is competition for the ladies, not because he is Swedish.

I have never seen mine even get a couple inches off the ground, too fat! She is VERY loud when she wants to be. My pekin also rules the roost. Gets along fine with 6 others (khaki and rouen), but she is definitely the boss! Then again, she may be a he, not sure quite yet!

Yeah, we have this one dove, for a lack of better terms seems to be a little "punk" to my pigeons(twice his size). I guess birds are just like humans in that case. So I'd gather that a 5-6 foot tall fence would be more than enough?

I have kept mine in an 2' fence, if they can't walk over it, they don't seem to bother.

I have a 6' fence except for one area where there is a 3' gate. No escapes yet and I have (or have had) a runner, some khakis, a buff, a rouen, a mutt, and now some baby Welsh Harlequins.

Heck, a few times hubby left the gate open and they still didn't leave. All the treats are in the back yard..why leave?!
