Questions about pipping

I read that after a chick pips and his beak is out that it can be 12 hours or so before it hatches. But, how long can it go before it breaks through?

I came home to 1 hatched chick & 2 eggs that have a crack. Not a hole yet. Since I wasn't home to see exactly when that appeared, I'm not sure how long its been. But I know for sure 3 1/2 hours.

I'm envisioning 2 chicks stuck in their eggs with no air.

as far as patience goes it can take forever. lol the crack is enough for it to breath and it can take 48 hrs. but not normally.

Oh geez. If it takes 48 hours I'll be a raving lunatic.

But if the crack let's in enough air, I won't worry.

no, lol it can take up to 48 not likely though. and i have killed chicks trying to hurry them along. terrible. i tell it to try to help others that are as tempted as i am.

Yes! I woke up to 3 more little yellow chicks. Another one this afternoon. 5 chickies!!

I am so glad it worked itself out...in aa hurry.
