I assume it depends on the breed, but how can you tell a male from female just by comb and wattle? Are there also feather differences? Size differences?

I have two black australorp's that I'm sure are roo and pullet. My two duckwings are different sizes and have different temperaments-one is much more ready to get in a tift than the other and he's larger.

I also have a New Hamp Red that is ready to whoop butt and stare down an opponent than the other three larger chicks. Is that indicative of a roo? All of my chicks are 4 weeks old. I also have 2 bantam cochins-same size, but one gets in the middle of stare downs.

The only one that has a noticably larger and redder comb is the australorp. FWIW, all of the chicks have girlie girl names! lol

Is there any place I can go to see the sex differences of different breeds at different ages?

Thanks!!

You can start looking for reddened combs and wattles, or basically their secondary sex characteristics, at about 6 weeks or so, as males will develop them quicker then. Behavor and appearance before then can be decieving.

Chickpeas on the australorps you can tell by their wings the roos have little stubby wings and the girls have long wings back to their tails also when they start feathering out the girls will have long tail feathers and the roos will have little stubby tail feathers

Thank you guys! I guess I have to be patient and just wait to see what they're gonna be. Of course they're all supposed to be girls, but who knows! lol

If I can just get an *idea* of how to tell them apart....
