I just found one of my 6 week old babies lethargic, wheezing, and clicking while breathing. I administered .25cc Tylan injectable, but so far I have lost all the babies with these symptoms and am not hopeful. When I lost the first two, I administered a two week regimen of aureomycin to the entire flock and assumed I had the issue nipped in the bud. I am thinking about investing in Tylan powder to treat the flock more effectively. However, I just read that most respiratory illnesses are chronic and puts the rest of the flock at risk once reintroduced, and that it is suggested the sick chicken be culled. Am I chasing rainbows at this point? Should I just cull this poor baby and forget about treating the flock? It should also be noted that all of the babies I have lost thus far were incubated.

Oh yeah, and its also necessary to mention that I am finding one sick chicken every couple of weeks. The rest of the flock is not showing symptoms.

The best way to identify what chronic respiratory disease that is affecting your flock is to get a necropsy on a culled or dead chicken that has been refrigerated and shipped promptly on ice packs to your state vet ormpoultry lab. MG, coryza, are the bacterial or mycoplasma ones, which may respond to some antibiotics such as Tylan, Denagard, mand others. Viruses such as infectious bronchitis or ILT are others that do not respond to ABs.
