Hello!

My little barred rock is coming!

I have three silkies, but they aren't vaccinated.

Will they catch diseases?

And, I know you should quarantine the chicken before introducing them, but there is only one to be quarantined, and i worry she would get lonely...

I would still quarantine.....it's hard for one to be lonely but maybe you can keep it around people?

You really should quarantine any new ones for at least three weeks, to a month. After that quarantine period is up, we usually put our new ones in a different pen where they can interact with the others, but are still protected, and we leave them in there for a week or so before we finally let them out to mix with the flock.

Okay. I can't stand the wait!

LOL

So can i transfer diseases like if i go see one set of chickens and then the one in quarantine (and vs versa)

Yes - you should definitely wash up between visits with the different birds.

It's hard, but it SO beats getting everyone sick. That guilt doesn't go away easy.

Good luck with the new girl

Gah!

You're right. I will definitely keep them separated. I just worry about my silkies, I got them when they were older and aren't vaccinated for marek's.
