So as everyone knows Cocoa has started to lay her eggs. It seems like she is trying to lay them in nest like area. Besides the one that I found just in the grown over flower bed the rest have been in the vines. She pushes her way in the vines and lays the eggs there. She keeps moving along the vines where she is laying them. I am almost thinking maybe with my dog stealing them she doesn't want to lay them in the same spot. Or am I just over thinking it.

My question is if I keep collecting them for a few days then put them in a little nest that she has made will she set on them? If she doesn't then I could just pick them back up and eat them right?

Sorry about all of the questions..this is totaly new to me, just like when I first got Cocoa nad Ebony.

If your bird is new to laying eggs, this would be normal. A duck that is serious about being broody and raising a family will definitely lay her eggs in the same spot/nest. If they are free ranged, she will pick an out-of-the-way place where you will have a fun time locating it!

I wouldn't be concerned at this point in time.

Unless she is showing other signs of going broody I wouldn't expect that she would. But possibly if you fenced a spot off where she has layed an egg and put the eggs there, she might stick to it once she knows the dog can't steal her egg. Otherwise you can probably still use the eggs, maybe give them the float test first. What kind of temperatures are you having there?

So when I collect them I should just keep them on the counter or can I keep them in the fridge before I put them back out there?

Thanks! I guess I will collect the rest and see what she does.

If she doesn't go for it then we will have enough eggs saved to make a yummy breakfast and a cake.

The kids and I ate one of her eggs yesterday and it was SOOOO good. It was our Ffrst time eating ducks eggs.
