I want to get a pair of ducks when we move to my new house and I was wondering which breed is the quietest? I would like it to be on the smaller side as we do live in town. I would love to get them as ducklings though so we probably wouldn't know the sex when we purchased them

Cayugas are known for being quiet, as well as being beautiful birds in the first place. They're also on the small side of domesticated ducks. If you're looking for a specific sex, you actually can order females or males it might just cost a little more depending on the source.

Well I just want two so they usually won't ship them so i need to buy them in person

If you buy 2 male Pekins while they are still babies they will bond with wach other and you.
Pekin males are pretty quit compared to females. Plus, Pekins are usually very friendly. I love my 4 year old drake Pekin, Guy, the most out of my fowl. Pekins are very personable too.
Male ducks are 99.9% always quieter then females. Males make a wraspy quieter quack while females make a very distinct and louder quack. I do t know why; they just do. Ha ha.
Hope this helps!

I'm very interested in this discussion. Chickens are not allowed in my city, but the law says nothing about ducks. (I love loopholes.)

I found a hatchery nearby that I has no minimum order and they have several different breeds of ducks available. I'm hoping someone says pekin, black runner, rouen, or black east india ducks are of the quieter varieties.

My Pekin boys are very quiet (of course, as someone else said, boys are most always quiet just bc of the "lack of quack".)

If not for the Pekins, my Mallards are very quiet on their own. It's when the Pekins get after the Mallards playing that it gets a bit rowdy. :)

I have Rouens, Indian Runners, and Pekin. All female except one Rouen. All of mine are pretty quiet. They usually just make quiet "conversation". They quack sometimes but not often enough to be bothersome to neighbors or anything.

I think I'm going to try to get muscovys, thanks guys! I'll post pics if I get them like I want to next weekend!
