I found a neat pattern made with trapezoids, squares, and rectangles, and since we are doing Geometry I thought we might try it out. I have four kids per group, 5 groups right now. I was thinking of having each group do one square and then try and put it together using other geometric figures. Of course none of us know how to do this but a local friend has offered to come in and help out if needed.

Speckled Hen has...it is a challenging block.

I purchased a wall hanging she made. It is something I have not brought myself to try yet.

There are a couple ways to make it, though I use the one with only the three pieces. You can do it another way, but it involves an extra piece being cut. That way, you don't have that inset where the three pieces meet to deal with. I actually love that block. You can do it so many ways and put anything you want in the windows. Cool!

Here are three things I made with it:

I love the Attic windows..I am considering it for my I spy blocks..I do my piecing by hand; and I think it makes the inset piece a little easier..for me anyway. I really like the center one Cynthia!!

I think if I was going to try this with new quilters I would use this method, it would eliminate the bias cut pieces that have a tendency to stretch and the inset seam. I have never see this block make this way, it would take some of the challenges out of making it.

Hmmmm I can't see the Photobucket pics here at work so I'll have to wait until I get home. I guess it's harder than it sounds and looks! I think we will make one out of paper today for math and then try the real one later! Thanks ladies and I can hardly wait to see the pics!
