Hello, My step daughter has a rash that looks like ringworm. Her mom thinks she got it from my chickens. I have a 4 bird backyard flock that has lots of space and seems very healthy. They are tame and we hang with them a lot, and always are diligent about hand washing. Any advise about a - how t tell if they have that fungus, and b - if they do how to rid them of it, or c - how to prevent us getting it from them would be much appreciated!

you can get rid of ringworm with athletes foot cream. I'm not sure if you can get it from chickens...I always thought it came from mammals but I'm not sure.

Yes, chickens can be a source for ringworm. So can the family dog. Or Cat. Or hamsters. Or other people who may have it.

It is a fungus, not actually a worm. It is in the Tinea family of Fungi. There are many OTC creams to treat it, in the athlete foot section at your pharmacy.

I took in an unwanted kitten about last fall. A short time later, both my DD and i had ringworm on our chins because that was his favorite place to cuddle, under our chins. Before we could get it stopped, it was on our arms and legs and took FOREVER to get rid of completely. You HAVE to use the cream even after it goes away because it continues to send out spores. Lesson learned.:

My son got a spot from the wrestling mats and before it cleared up (athelete's foot cream) my youngest 16 month old got it and I guess since he's a baby and his immunities are not full grown yet, it has spread on him like wildfire! I just can't seem to get it cleared up

I feel so bad!! But, I have been doing some more research and I have a plan laid out to help get it cleared up. If that doesn't work then it's to the doc's for the expensive cream that doesn't really do much either. We've done the cream thing with the kids before and it just doesn't work that well... I want to try homopathic cures this time. I was doing good with tea tree oil but when I tried switching to some other ideas it made it angry... so back to tea tree and I'm going to add epson salt soaks twice a day and anti-fungal spray in the mornings. We'll see how it goes............

I just now remembered that the foot cream stopped working and I went on the internet and bought a cream that cost 30 some dollars, it worked quick and you can hardly tell that any was taken from the jar. It smells just like Pinesol. I'll look when I get home. It worked in 2 days.

I saw that I think...... wondered if it worked or not! Which brand did you get??? I bought a black-light today... it's sposed to glow green under one, but none of his spots were green, so maybe I did successfully kill it and I just need to wait for it to heal.

Went and got some more stuff to treat it anyway.
