In the Brooder
View attachment 1389170 We recently picked up 11 assorted day old chicks to add to the flock, including a couple Cochins on Friday. We had one that was much smaller than the rest, very docile. We noticed she was not nearly as active as the others, often sleeping alone and for long stretches. She had a small bout of pasty butt last night which we immediately cleaned and she pooped almost immediately after and we hoped that was it. We then tried to perk her up with some sugar water. She did perk up a little last night but unfortunately she didn’t make it. We feared it might be an illness but none of the other 10 babies are showing any signs of anything except eating, drinking and making noise! It never gets easy losing a chick. The wife is taking it exceptionally hard. Just wanted to share a picture of our little Ginger.
