it has rained all day here in north central pa..my girls have had to stay in all day..lots of toys for them to play with, cabbage ball, scratch in plastic bottles with holes in them..they love those. Looks like rain tomorrow too..ughh any other ideas on how to keep them occupied when they are "cooped" up all day?

Raining here too but my girls actually enjoy going out in the uncovered part of their run. Half of the run is covered (but open on the sides so it does get damp) and the coop is raised so they can go under it but they're out in the rain a lot, scratching and looking for bugs I guess. They have a hanging feeder with a squirrel guard over it (plus the run roof) so the food stays dry. My run has good drainage so although it might get wet there are no muddy areas nor puddles.
It was rainy but temps were in the 60's here in NY. Chicken feathers do shed water and when I checked on them this evening after they had gone in for the night they were all nice and dry.
Do your birds have access to any shelter at all when they are out of the coop?

Oh,ok..well if it lets up some ill let them out tomorrow..their coop has a dirt floor and a ramp to get up on their roosts. It is pretty dry in their coop and I have down pine shavings and straw and leaves on the floor to which I throw some 5 grain scratch in it so they can work it around. Their net covered run gets a little muddy but their larger run was very wet today so I didn't let them out in that one. Hoping the rain let's up a bit tomorrow so I can let them out to get all the luscious worms and things..thank you for your response!

Rainy here too.....the last 2 days and 2 more to go.
Most like to be out in it unless it's pouring.
I let them decide whether to stay in coop or go out.

Run is uncovered except for small(4x8) area under coop.
Coop is pretty good sized for number of birds I have(7sqft per bird), so no 'cabin fever'.

Whaddaya gonna do when it snows,
or is colder than a you know what for days on end?

thanks for your response. My coop is 11 feet by 18 feet and the one outside run is 7 feet wide by 22 feet long. the other run is much larger more rounded. My girls have lots of running space. I let them out today as it finally quit raining here. They loved it!! I added more pine shavings and raked them into the pile of leaves and straw under their roosts. Looks like its drying out nicely. The wind has been blowing hard here all day so that helped alot! this is my first winter with my girls, so im not sure what to expect. ill keep you posted :)

Rained here all day yesterday too in France and it was cold but my girls still prefered to be out in it rather than stay in their coop, lots of trees for them to forage and scratch around and gives them some shelter, plus my porch which is out of the rain where they like to sit on the mat and preene themselves

That's HUGE!!
Am green jelly...got pics?
I don't have recent ones, but I'll get some soon...it used to be a manger for sheep..i renovated it to be a coop...it has a few leaks I just noticed but nothing serious..today was nice and windy and sunny so it dried out fast..im hoping with that and the pine shavings, leaves and straw/hay it will keep it dry..whew!
