Rain barrel- have to be BPA free? I’m using it with a nipple bar but it says not BPA free. If I use it w city water is it safe?

I’m just finishing building a coop/run and getting pullets next week. I wanted to use a rain barrel that I could heat in winter to keep from freezing but I don’t know if the one I have is safe for the girls to drink from. Are other containers food safe- 5 gallon buckets from box stores? 30 gallon pails? Need help! Thanks
