I have been really psyched about my buff rock babies. I finally got them out of the house and into a pen with some older pullets. They got along well. I was out of town over the weekend and had storms blow through. I came home to drowned chicks.

It must have been some storm. People are telling me that it flooded the streets and sidewalks. We had an empty kiddie pool in the back yard and it was full when we got back. Now I have to start all over again and find more buff rock eggs.

So sorry to hear this

I've found that Murphy's law always tend to assert itself at the worst times (such as in the case of you being away) so I am a nut about having numerous daily checks on my babies on the rare occasions when I am away. Even then, some crazy thing can always happen. The universe can be so unkind.

I know what you mean about Murphy's Law. Their pen was on top of the hill next to the garden. They did have elevated shelter, but DH thinks they stayed out because it was so hot. A neighbor told us that even after it rained the humidity was so high that you could barely walk outside. It is just a freak thing that only happens when you aren't home.

I am so sorry for your loss.

I had almost the same thing happen. I found what I thought was a dead baby - there was water running out of his mouth! When I picked him up to bury him, he moved! I took him inside, dried him off and warmed him up. His name has been Puddles ever since.
