we are getting rain for the next several days. Not sure how that is going to affect the girls getting outside... Is it ok for them to be out in the wet grass?

No they are over a year. Babies are inside the coop and I won't let them out in this!!! Yuck but the big girls I feel bad for

My chickens go out in the rain- it rains here a lot in winter. But I have shelters for them so they don't have to stand in it.

I am like you though - I won't let my itty bitties out in it so they don't get chilled if they are under a heat lamp.

Our flock of 35 is fine in the rain. They go into their coop, hang out under brush, or even just hunt and scratch the ground in rain. We haven't had a problem with chickens and rain (coming into the second summer rains with them). I am like you though, I feel for them. My hubby reminds me that they are wild(ish) and can stand rain. I guess my heart thinks more than my head sometimes.

Good luck!

My birds have access to their run 24/7.

Some go out, some stay in.

They decide if they want to get wet, not me.

this is my style, too.

Remember, rain brings out the bugs, so it's like a buffet to them! Plus, feathers may get wet, but their actual skin stays dry unless it's a real down pour.
