Rainbow Chickens (Hoover hatchery)

I got 3 Rainbow Chickens from my local Agway which’s gets them from Hoover Hatchery. These ones are much bigger than the rest, they’re 4 weeks old. This is a picture of just one of them. Hen or roo? Too soon to tell? They are all pretty funny and the first ones to run over to me

Just a hunch? since these were already older than the general chick supply, Maybe they are males that many passed up on purchasing.
I cant tell gender at young stage, but peeps that raise that breed should have better opinions.'

Thank you! They were all day old when I got them, I’m hoping they’re not all males, they’re all really beautiful!! Guess we shall wait and see

Sometimes one just grows a bit faster at first and the rest catch up later. It does not always have to do with gender. And sometimes one can be a day older than we think, or even just 12 hours... that can make a difference in the early days and weeks, but eventually things usually even out.

I have (or so I THINK) 2 rainbows too! And they’ve grown sooo big! And heavy! Hoover’s site says full grown they get 7-8lbs so I’m thinking they’re just big girls lol. Do you have photos of yours now? The one you posted looks a little like mine. Since they all look different, it’s cool to see some that look similar

Yes!! They’re hefty omg here are my 3. The rooster is friendly so far, he’s kind of scared of everything. One always jumps on my shoulder and almost makes a honking sound. The other one is friendly too

They’re so cute! Mine are still so flighty with me they’ll come eat out of my hand but as soon as I try to pet their chest or move my hand in any way, they take off. I wish they’d be friendly like yours! How old are they now? Any laying? Is your rooster crowing? I hope mine are both pullets. They’re 10 weeks and other than their combs being a little pink, they look like pullets Here are my 2!

They’re so cute! Mine are still so flighty with me they’ll come eat out of my hand but as soon as I try to pet their chest or move my hand in any way, they take off. I wish they’d be friendly like yours! How old are they now? Any laying? Is your rooster crowing? I hope mine are both pullets. I am thinking those are pullets too! They look similar to my 2! They’re 14 weeks old, so I am going to open up the nesting boxes soon. The rooster hasn’t crowed yet! And no idea how they’re friendly, especially compared to the rooster, he’s seriously such a chicken and hates being touched. My other chickens especially the dark brahmas are so nice. Glad to see someone else with rainbow chickens because everyone thinks I mean rainbow egg layers!

Yeah the one on your shoulder and my one with the black markings look so similar, it’s pretty cool! I’m going to keep working with them and maybe they’ll be friendly like yours one day. One of my Sapphire Olive Eggers, one of my Cream Legbars and my two older hens (red sexlinks) are the only ones that will come right up and let me hold them and snuggle them lol. I want to snuggle them ALL Yes, very cool to find someone else with Rainbows! Let me know when they start laying! I wish I could block off my boxes but my two older girls would riot So far the babies don’t seem to care about them and roost really well so I guess that’s good.
