Raising a baby

Hi all I’m from Alabama! Raising a flock of 24 hens and one Rooster, ( was supposed to be 25 hens!) lol! any way broody hen just hatched a new baby! Should I leave it with her, or put it nursery with chick starter, and water but I it’s large enough to join others.? It’s so small it won’t be able to follow mom to food and water!

There are several members who tell about building a little safety house where the chick can get away from the big chickens and leaving them with the big guys. You can look for the variety of ways and discussion of pros and cons by looking the SEARCH box for CHICKS IN FLOCK

I would seperate mama and chick for a couple days and then put them together. The roo should help protect the chick and even if the mama doesn't seem like it now, she will get EXTREMELY protective. Good luck and welcome to BYC!

Welcome to BYC. Leave the chick with Mom. Switch the entire flock to a flockraiser or grower feed, with your calcium on the side. Make sure the chick can access food, water, and grit.
