Raising a bantam with reg chicks - got some questions.

I'm hoping I can get some advice from those who are more experienced. I've done a few google searches & searches here looking to see if others raised their bantams with their regular chicks and what I've read from those who did it seemed to go fine for them, so we went ahead & bought a little welsummer bantam along with 5 regular sized chicks. They are 2.5 weeks old now & I'm starting to wonder if one - I should of bought more than one bantam so she'd have some "smaller" company lol, and two - the reg sized chicks aren't mean to her - I've been very attentitve to them to see if they started picking on her, but she really seems to get trampled simply because she's small esp. now that their growing. My reg chicks are getting big, and she is still so tiny! She's always last to eat/drink - I'm starting to feel bad for her!

Soooo now I'm questioning my decision & wondering if I should go get another bantam or two and separate them. If I do do this, do you think she's young enough that such a change will work out okay? OR am I worrying for nothing and she'll be okay?

My Bantams dont hang out together much. They seem to be loners. That is probubly the reason the hawks get them. That and being smaller.

I have 2 bantams in with 6 standards. At first, everything was ok, but now the banties are starting to feel their age (9) and have been really getting picked on by the big ones.
I also have 4 chicks in the brooder, one of which is bigger than the rest (I do not know what happened there). The big one knows she is bigger and she can be brutal to the other 3.
I do not personally recommend mixing sizes. Sometimes it works, as it had for me for quite a while, but it doesn't always last, unfortunately. So, at the very least, please be prepared to have to separate them at some point in time.
I do recommend getting at least one other banty for her. She will have no adverse reactions to the change. In fact, she'll probably welcome not getting trampled constantly.

Yeah - I can really see now how that would happen! It's been bothering me for a few days now esp. as two of my girls have become quite large, rather quickly & unintentionally stomp on my little welsummer - poor thing lol I've been calling around and a lot of places aren't selling chicks anymore & I'm not familiar with the online ordering so I guess I have some research to do!

Thanks guys for your replies - I sure appreciate them
