I'm in north Texas...do bobwhites do well on the ground if provided plenty of shelter and branches? Or maybe a hide box off the ground? I have sandy loam rich soil

I wouldn't raise them on loam.I think a washed masonry sand will give you better results. You will need to clean it often as they need to be on a clean surface.Plus with masonry sand they can sand bath where ever they feel like.Do at least 6 inches of sand so worms hopefully will not penetrate to the top.Always provide branches for them to hide in,perches at different levels and I would mix grit right in with their feed. And they should be fed a gamebird feed, either crumble or pellet or both.Fresh water at all times and at least once a week give them electrolytes and vitamins in their water supply.

Thanks Tony...i have always raised birds on wire
