Raising Buff Orpingtons with Barred Rocks - a bad idea?

Hello All - this is my first post I love this site and hope some of you might respond with some insight.

I just started our backyard flock with 3 Buff Orpingtons and 3 Barred Rocks. I was looking for good egg layers that are family friendly and can do well in Colorado. I somehow missed that the BRs might really boss the BOs.

My chicks are only about 1 week old. Was it a bad idea to mix these two breeds? Can I try to keep them together or should I try to raise just the BOs?

Thanks for any advice. I haven't had chickens since I was a little girl. It's such fun to see my sons already in love with the chickens.

I'm following this as well because I also have barred rock and buff Orpington together. They are about a week old.

They'll be fine together. I've had hatchery barred Rocks as the backbone of my flock for years with no problems. I've kept Orpingtons with them, among several other breeds. I currently have little bantam cochin hen who got tossed in with the big girls, she's doing just fine.
