Raising Jumbo Cornish Rock

I am wanting to start raising meat chickens with out buying chicks or eggs from another source. I want to hatch and raise the chicks by my self so i can see some sort of profit so i can put it back into my chicken operation. I am wanting to breed cornish rocks and was wondering if that would be cost effective. My concern is that the few that i choose to breed will quickly become over weight given their growth rate. Is it possible to stick with one rooster and 3 to four hens to breed? or will they become over weight after 10 weeks or so and have to be butchered. Thanks in advance for all feedback

As far as Jumbo Corn Rocks go, you won't be able to raise them self-sufficiently. As you eluded too, they will likely die or stop producing eggs before giving you offspring. Even if they did successfully have chicks, since the parents are both hybrids the offspring won't be true to type.

There's a million and one threads here regarding alternatives to buying broiler chicks, and a million and one different answers as to the best alternative. Some people stick with certain DP breeds, some try to breed something of their own (I'm experimenting with my own hybrids), others keep buying chicks.

Hopefully some day, there will be a clear cut second option.
