My chicken just hatched her first chick this morning. She is in the coop with 3 other hens and a rooster. We let them out during the day and close them up at night. (free range)At this moment, the chick is in the nest with mom but I'm wondering the best way to keep baby safe while trying to eat etc. Mom is still sitting on 3 more eggs and I dont want to move her. Last year I moved the chicks out as they hatched but when they were full grown, I was unable to put them out with the other chickens- they fought terrible. I figured if I raised them together, they may stand a better chance of getting along? Any suggestions?

if possible you could temporarily fence mom in a section of the coop with babies until they are a little older. If they stay there with the others, one night just take out the partition and all should go smoothly. If you want to restrict their free ranging at first, a short fence to keep them in will work until they fly over it, which by the way, won't take long.
