Raising Pidgeons and Doves

Is their enough money to be made in pidgeons and doves to support your hobby? I find them facinating but I need at least a self supporting hobby.
Pigeons - not pidgeons.

What do you want to do with the pigeons and doves and how do you think they will make you money?

If you are going to eat them and sell them for meat then they will not support your hobby unless you have hundreds of them and you can process the birds yourself and package them. You will need to find customers, such as restaurants - and a lot may be a long way from you, so you have to sort out transport - delivery etc.

If you are breeding them for selling as show birds - then you will not make you money back. You will have to also start out with expensive stock - they must be show quality and from a breeder who has a reputation at shows already.

So I guess my answer is they will not support themselves in the long run, unless you invest large sums of money and do things on a big scale.

I have been trying to get a White Dove release business off the ground (pun intended) for over a year now. I can still claim it is a loosing proposition. I have yet to have my first paying client. I am still hope-full. It all depends on your market and the area you live in my case.
