I’m new to bloodlines rabbits. I raised registered goats before, so I get the concept. There was someone local who was selling out because they had to move. And we bought 8 beautiful pedigreed mini rex, for a sweet deal. We had planned to raise meat rabbits like standard rex, or silver fox. But we couldn’t pass up this opportunity. I figured we would see where this takes us, and make changes down the road.

I see that you can have pedigreed rabbits just buy putting that information on a blank forum. And registered rabbits are done through a ARBA membership with approval. I was thinking about joining so that I could be listed as a breeder, and it seems like they provide a lot of useful information with memberships. I’d love the information, because I want to raise quality animals.
Would I need to register any or all of my rabbits? Or should I? Anyone know what the fees are per rabbit?
Some of our kids might show some of them in the future. But that isn’t really the plan right now. We just wanted some profitable pets to add to our homestead. So if I could have a membership and raise pedigreed rabbits that seems like the best choice for us. But I was wondering what someone with more experience would think?

Nobody registers all of their rabbits but everybody should keep pedigrees on all of them. If you are starting out I suggest you get the book Storey's Guide to Raising Rabbits by Bob Bennett. He discusses that issue and the book has a lot of good advice on all phases of rabbit management. Getting pedigreed rabbits and getting an ARBA membership is certainly starting out on the right foot. Congratulations!!

Hasenpfeffer is Hasenpfeffer, Papers or no papers.. If you are raising for show and tell.. You be wrong headed. 4H doesn't stand for 4Heaven.

Pedigrees are sometimes worth their weight in gold. They can tell you which are the best parents in the right hands for your projects.

I applaud you for getting actual breeds instead of designer mixes

Keep pedigrees, as it's easy to forget your lines, and some buyers like them, but you don't have to register them. Registration can be done later if you feel the need.

I’m 100 % keeping pedigrees and record...
but what is this mumbo jumbo about 4-h is there some sort of 4-h hate group I don’t know about or something? I’m so lost.
