Ramp questions

Hello, we are working on our coop and was needing information about the ramp. We are planing on using 2x8 with rails for traction. Do the rails need to be a certain distance apart or does it matter?

I don't think it really matters as long as the pitch isn't to steep.

I didn't even put rails on mine and the chickens don't seem to have any problems.
