my hens are notorious for eating our eggs. we have 10 and we used to get 6 or 7 eggs every day but now we get 1, 2 or 3. How can I stop this?!

I have heard about rubber or wooden eggs, maybe use a few of these so when they try to eat them it can't be done? Haven't tried this, its only an idea and i hope it works!

what about the eggs they lay, won't they just eat the ones they can?

yeah i guess so, was an idea but if u got to the ones they lay just as they lay them and leave the fakes in the nest... who knows?

Mustard eggs or cull the culprits. I have heard some success with blowing out eggs and filling them with mustard. Hens supposedly can't stand the taste and will not want to risk it again. This may not fix the problem though. You want to deal with it ASAP or bad habits will spread.

Consider also that your girls may be hiding eggs from you or you may have a different type of egg thief (2 legged are the worst). Snakes have been known to eat fake eggs and golf balls, so if those disappear- stop blaming your chickens.
