For sale are 12+ Auburn Java Eggs from my heritage flock. Javas are a hardy breed, they are the first ones out of the coop in the morning and the last ones in at night. My Auburn Javas were developed from the hard work of the Garfield Farm Museum and Mr. Tim Christakos at the Museum of Science and Industry.

I plan to ship these out Monday April 23 , 2012, so the auction will end at 6AM 4/23/2012 CST.

Shipping will be via USPS Priority Mail. Shipping charges will be $15.

That roo is GORGEOUS! I didn't know they came in that variety, or is this a project?

The Auburn color was "rediscovered" by selective breeding of Garfield Farm Museum birds by Tim Christakos at the Museum of Science and Industry. The resulting birds were dispersed to a farm here in IL, and I was lucky enough to get some eggs. The colors continue to develop- selecting for bright roos, and mainly darker hens with the tan spangling. Hens vary from black with tan bbreast spangling to tan with black spangles. I will try to add some more pics later today.

That sounds great. Which is the preferred for the females? The Black Spangles or the Gold? I would think Gold would be the prettier since there are already other breeds with the opposite, but I would like to know what the standard is or was?

I am always on the lookout for some heritage breeds to consider here. I like to offer a good variety of colors of birds and eggs to my customers.

There is no color standards for the hens yet- I actually prefer the black with gold spangles myself. We will see how future generation of this variety develop

The American Poultry Assn has recognized the Java chicken (male and female) in black and Mottled since 1883. any color other than those two are hybrids and not recognized as an APA Standard breed.
