rarest breed of chicken

In the APA Standard of Perfection- the lamona. I do not know of anybody that has the breed. It is most likely extinct. A person could duplicate the breed using information on how the breed was developed. It would make for a fun project but I do not see a great demand for the breed.

There are a number of breeds that are rare because they are only produced in a specific geographic region. They are found all over the world- some are only produced in a specific village.

I was under the impression that the Lamona was extinct, too, but Mother Earth News included it in the breeds surveyed in their (currently ongoing) poultry survey, and several people said they'd had Lamonas. Of course, there was no time frame given; they might have been remembering birds they'd had forty or fifty years ago....
