Hi Im Scarlett and I live in North GA, my home town is the Washington DC area . I'm married mom of three kids 18, , 6 , 4 and mom to a 100 pound St. Benard mix who is an easy laid back kind of pooch, which surprises many ppl bc of his size, but most of my best dogs have been large breed dogs, I use to adopt greyhounds and keep cats all together until all three died . So I'm use to being a caregiver to typical pets, but never outdoor pets esp ones that everything wants to eat. My grandmother lived in Southern maryland on 10 acres and I don't really recall her fussing much over her yard chickens or pond geese . I dont recall her talking about deworming her birds or bumble foot. or vent gleet she just seemed to throw them table scraps and fill some buckets of water and that was it. I'd really like some docile bird suggestions for eggs and not quail.

I just dont like the look of quail, the egg size doesnt even quailify as small, and i wanted something with more personality. I have Lupus and MS and though I havent had any bed ridden flare ups in a while, I still still have times when its hard for me to move , and lift and my energy is low ect. I really dont need a heavy bird i have to man handle or a flighty exhausting bird that I need to chase down, I need them to be easy on my husband and kids for when they help me . We have a carport that was here when we moved and I think we are going to knock it down and put a shed there that will be a coop and and build in a large run that takes up the majority of the side of my yard. we have two acres. We have plenty of shade from woods that surround all sides of our home. I won't be placing my order until the Fall so I can get the birds next Spring, so we have plenty of time to get things together. This summers project was to sharpen up our gardening skills and see what we can grow in such a shady area, I didnt want to do some panic buying. And this has been something thats been on my mind to do for years, but this is the first time we have been in a position to make it happen with getting this new place i had thought about the Spitzhaubens breed bc they are small and I heard they are good layers. But I keep hearing mixed things about how nosy ,and flighty they are and unfriendly and I dont want mean birds that bother my neighbors. I wish i could meet some and decide so I figured I'd ask here what breeds may work for me

Hi, it's nice to have you here with us! One of the most mellow birds I've had was a Welsummer (and her eggs are pretty). A lot of people here seem to like the Buff Orpingtons for their personality too.

What ever breed you get, remember each bird has it's own personality so they aren't all exactly like the breed descriptions.
