Ration Feeding

I'm wondering at what age I could consider starting to "ration feed".

IMO, never unless you're raising meat birds.

Laying hens and roosters should have access to feed 24/7. They'll self regulate and not overeat. Lack of feed, even for a short while, can have a negative effect on your egg production.

I free range my flocks, but still have feed available to them in their coops at all times. Just in case a hen had a bad day foraging.
