Thank you all so much. I would have never dreamed I would get this attached, when DH started bringing chickens home last early spring. I fell in love with a duck about a week old that he brought home first, and then the chickens came. I don't remember when suddenly those chickens became more than chickens to me. Those of us who have chickens in our lives, are on a different emotional level than those that do not. Not better or worse...just different. I'm grieving the loss of this little guy, and it helps to know you really and truly do understand.
