Rattlesnakes in the guest bedroom!

I guess that's the tradeoff. In Northern Maine we have no poisonous snakes, but we are just coming off a winter with 200 inches of snow!

I've lived in California for 18 years and have never seen a rattlesnake. Don't get me wrong i know they are here and i am careful....but thank God i haven't run across one as of yet.....(knocking on wood right now)

"Actually, a .22 rifle with shot cartridges is a very good anti-snake weapon. You can stand way back where you are safe, then just reach the muzzle of the rifle down right in the snake's face and pop him. At such close range the little charge of tiny shot kills them quickly and humanely, but doesn't ricochet and do other damage, like regular bullets can do. A real shotgun would blow the ^%&$ out of your floor and wall!"

Floors can be replaced!

I have seen them strike further than the length of a rifle..No thanks I will blast it, the floors, the bookcase and the wall but it will die. I have a strict NO SNAKE in the house rule. I have a beautiful almost 6' kingsnake that lives right behind my house on the ridge. He suns himself in the driveway and I am so happy he lives here...all my neighbors have rattlers in their yards but I do not. Kingsnake keeps them away so he can stay!

I'd have had to put on my spare britches, cause I would have crapped all over my self. Twice. Once for each snake.

We have copperheads where I live, and sometimes a rattler will float his way down out of the Blue Ridge on the Dan River. I can face darn near anything, from rats and deer guts to dog puke and all manner of fecal matter. I can't stand a freakin snake.

I'm shaking! I do not like snakes one bit. I have only seen garter snakes here in my yard but I've run into big water snakes in the woods (non-venomous but angry things) and it takes me forever to get over an encounter with one. Here in CT we're told that the only venomous snakes live near the CT River valley. I hope so! I scream if I see a garter snake half way across the yard! I just can't help it. Don't like snakes. Did I mention that?
One summer we had one that would wind its way up one of the hedges next to our front door and sun itself in the afternoon. I forgot a couple of times and would go out the door and be surprised by him. ugh

Cetawin, you and I are in agreement there. We have bull snakes around here that keep the rattlesnakes away. They also eat up mice and other filthy and obnoxious critters. Yaaay for bullsnakes!

We also have a beautiful snake called a desert kingsnake. He's black with yellow speckles down his back. Yaaay for them too!

A trick I leaned in Viet Nam, when a snake is hidden in something, give it a shot with the co2 fire extinguisher. They are cold blooded, and that brings them out of the junk real fast. Be ready, they will not be happy when the come out.
