Unfortunately it's tough to near impossible to train a dog that's killed 'things' to stop doing it. I guess that's the risk we have to take when we free range..

Well, I think maybe she's stopped doing it... she was out all day the other day... went up to the coop that night and found out I left the door to the run open... all five of the hens looked fine.

Ravens can live to 80 years old.
The natives say if you kill a raven you will have bad luck for life.

Yeah, I had GSD's and they got some of my chickens. I loved my dogs so I just learned to keep them separated from the chickens. They have a strong prey instinct and there's not much you can do about that. HOWEVER, years later and in retrospect, I'm now wondering if a hawk may have been responsible for some of the deaths and even provided my shepherds with their first and/or occasional headless chicken corpses to play with and eat. They may have 'taken the wrap' when it wasn't always their fault.

I have five GSD's... the only one of them that is a problem is the Father and he seems to think they are toys.. so he is restricted from any immediate contact with them....Mum was raised with chickens and ignores them totally... the three 1 year old Sister's are in training ( and have been since they were born here ) and they accept the chickens, ducks and geese as being an integral part of life here and are now desensitised to them.... I would still NEVER leave any of them alone with the birds.. training is essential ! Teach them obedience and commands of what is acceptable and not acceptable in their environment and they do need a lot of exercise and focus .... a dog that understands commands and lives in harmony with other animals is a joy to own... you only get out what you put in.
