I know that it's said that at a certain age in puppyhood, a pup is considered to be half his adult weight but I can't remember when? Is it four months or six?

I think that depends on the breed, I know Chihuahuas are pretty much full grown by 8 months old, Great Danes keep on growing until they're 2. Yes I know that from experience on both breeds!

I guess I should have specified, the boys are german shepherd dogs. Jax is 90 lbs. at a year old and still growing. Kane weighed 45 lbs. on his 4 month birthday.

At about five months old a dog is considered to weight about 2/3 of their adult weight. I have found this very accurate with my larger dogs, not so much with my toy breeds like my Papillon.

Thanks. I wouldn't worry about it, except I have a bet going with DH on Kane's grown weight. I lost the bet on Jax (I guessed 100), but maybe not, since I'm pretty sure Jax isn't finished growing.

The 2nd year on big dogs is when they tend to fill out. I remember my Shepard girl at a year. All legs and they went in different directions at the same time, lol. She topped out at 85lbs and always looked skinny no matter what I fed her.

They say 4 months.
And for where my dogs have been it is about right.
My boys were light weights when we brought them home at 8 weeks. They were only 5 lbs. Now they are nearly 80 and 2 years. My girl has only gained 10 lbs since she was 7 months old. She is 47.8lbs now at 18 months.

Our GSD's always filled out in the second year. Sophie is 11 months, and so far she's leggy. I know she isn't done growing yet, she's got some filling out to do.
