He was out of your hands, nothing you could do about it. You tried to give him a chance at having a good life, and it didn't work out. Sometimes it's just rotten.
Unless there's a necropsy done, you won't really have answers here. Maybe a disease in their flock he hadn't been exposed to before?
He had no future in your flock, and you did your best.

Thank you. Our hearts were definitely in the right place. Thought he would be happy with lots of hens around and somewhere to place his hormonal energy. In the end maybe we over-tamed him a bit and he wasn’t cut out for the hard core coop life? Maybe he got coccidiosis? We’ll never know I guess.
