Sorry, first posted this to the chick care topic before I saw the disease topic:
Hi, folks, I was hoping someone could help ID the disease that struck 2 of my flock of 27 at 10 days of age. They have been on medicated feed since day one, because that's all the feed store has. I add new straw daily for the deep litter method, and change water 2x/day, so I'm keeping things pretty clean. One chick started limping, listing over to one side, dragging a wing; she was breathing fast and clicking when she breathed, and had a bit of burgundy in her poops, though no true blood. I isolated her; a day later another one started limping though had none of the other symptoms. I started both on oxytetracycline antibiotic in the water on the suggestion of the feed store; the second one has recovered completely, and the first one enough to persistently fly out of isolation and rejoin the flock, so I've let her be, though she's not quite as perky as the others 4 days after coming down sick.
From my chicken book, the symptoms had features of respiratory AND enteric infection--any ideas?
Thanks!
