Re- Training Roosting

Hello! Long story short but two of my hens live in their own pre fab coop when they are not free ranging due to the rooster bullying them in the main coop. Their “cottage” came with roosts about two inches off the ground so they have both been sleeping in the nest boxes which leads to messy eggs etc. I added an elevated roost today and put them on it at bedtime and they both jumped down to go in the nest boxes. They know how to roost since they try sleeping in the run somedays on a perch and I have to put them in. Any advice on getting them to use the new roost? Block off nest boxes? Put them up there in the dark? I’m including a pic of my gorgeous Sumatra nest box sleeper for tax. Thank you!

Try blocking off the nesting boxes after they have laid their eggs, see if they begin roosting.
