These are very intelligent, curious, and adventurous chickens. My other chickens have no problem staying in the fenced areas. My Comets are impossible to keep within boundaries unless you keep them in a fully enclosed run. I find them on the roof and on the other side of the deer fence. I will need to put up a wood fence so they aren't seeing the other side of the fence. Where the wood fence is they are fine but they always go to the deer fence and find a breach. I think they may be causing the breaches. Once on the other side, they stay close because they want to be near the flock without actually being in the flock. I have four Comets out of 27 chickens and they are the hardest to control. Unless you have plenty of acreage or plan to keep them locked in all the time this is not the chicken for you. The good news is that when they leave the yard they will come when I call them and I pull them through.
