Yeh, true locusts are the real plague...they destroy 100's of acres of our alfalfa. Many people just call both types "locust" even though they know the differences very well.

You guys are funny! After they molt and get their wings, they don't even have a mouth anymore!! NOTHING to eat, bite, sting with. The worst they can do is fly at you and look at you with their googly-eyes...but they're really cute to me and as kids, we'd pick them up and stick them to our clothing like a living brooch.

We have 17 year cicadas, which aren't due again 'till 2014.

By then I will a good flock established again and the birds can have a feast!
