I bought 2 drakes about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I have a coop, but the run is not finished yet, so I let my chickens free range.
In the meantime, I kept the drakes in a wire crate with their own food and water. I kept the wire crate in the coop at night with the girls, and would take it out during the day, placing it where the chickens hang out the most. I thought that this way, even though they are crated, they are still kept with the other birds and hopefully bond with the flock.
We had horrible storms here and lots of flooding, and right before it started I took the ducks out of the crate and shut them in the coop with the chickens. So they have all been together in the coop since Friday night. Today the sky has finally cleared and I want to let all everyone out together to free range.
Do you think the ducks will stay with the flock, or take off?
Thanx all!
