How do you tell if/ when a hen is ready to lay?

Also, I have an EE pullet (6 months old) in with my layers, do I need to spereate her feed?

Some of the signs are:

1. Waddles and combs will go from pink to deep red, and some breeds, the combs will flop over.
2. They will start to "squat"... It's like they squat down but keep their wings splayed outwards...very noticeable, they will do it if you come close, or especially if you reach down to them, they'll squat...
3. They sing....lol the egg song will be repeated and repeated when they are close; its th all popular " bawk bawk bawk bawkawwwk" lol ;)

Your 6 month old pullet should be getting close to lay, so she should be just fine getting layer feed; it'll help her build calcium stores since she's so close to maturity. :)
